F1 Australia GP 2020 cancelled, championship start postponed of 2 (at least) months
After an entire night of discussion, in the end the Australian GP has been cancelled. It’s a pity for the F1 super-fans but THIS is not a normal moment. We’ve now the official confirmation that also Bahrein and Vietnam GP have been postponed. FIA would start the Championship in Monaco, but everything depends on the development of the situation.
Not a easy call.
FIA and Liberty Media tried till the end, maybe pushing also too much to get the championship started. Today stakeholders and sponsors need to be put aside, even at cost of a large amount of money. Since the beginning, a small group of teams, lead by Ferrari were against the decision of racing after the withdraw of McLaren (after the positivity of one member to Coronavirus). With hours passing, also Mercedes changed its mind. The only top team willing for the race was Red Bull and then the decision was made. But TOO late. Some fans already came to the track because no offical statement was made. On the other hand we know that Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were already on a flight for the way back.
When will F1 start?
It’s too soon to say with certainty. Probably in Monaco, scheduled for the 24th of May. Another possible date for the starting is Baku at the beggining of June. The organization of F1 events still have the goal to play at least 18 GPs for the 2020 season. It will be hard, 1 GP may be placed during the summer holidays that will blow up.
Take care of yourself, and always stay tuned!
