BEST 6 Anime show like Death Note

In this article we’ll discover few anime show like Death Note. In case you’re a fan of Light Yagami and L and you feel void having finished the series, you can find a bunch of interesting titles very similar to Death Note saga.

Why is Death Note so popular?

The thing that made Death Note so special and great to people was how it gives off a vibe different from normal animes. Death Note didn’t rely on fasted paced fight scenes or action sequences it relied on intelligent and engaging characters and the suspense generated from the cat and mouse game shown throughout the series between Light and L or Light and Near/Mello. Death Note feels more like a detective story with a mix of murder and drama and you can sometimes forget that it’s even an anime and I believe this works fairly well for the series.

Let’s find together which animes have the same intriguing plot! If you’re looking for the best 50 anime to watch you can’t miss out our article TOP 50+ anime to watch.

  • Code Geass (Hangyaku no Lelouch). Code Geass is one of my favorite anime. It’s filled with so much action, bombastic dialogue, and has such eye-catching visuals that it tops the charts in entertainment value. This is an exciting and epic anime and it’s over the top. Code Geass is a awesome anime that will surely gather different opinions from viewers and other reviewers other than myself. If your main interest in anime is in the quality of the storytelling or the characters, then Geass is probably not for you. However, if you’re in it to have fun or for some good laughs, then take a look at this anime. You won’t be disappointed. Indeed Geass is a rare accomplishment. You can read our review of Code Geass here.

The comment on Code Geass.

Code Geass is brilliant.  It is one of the best animes ever made to date and stands with the best shows/movies of all time as well. You might very well have heard similar praises for this show before and I’m here to say that it deserves every single one of them. I don’t give out 10 stars often, but I would gladly give the double of that for Code Geass. It has every single element required to be amazing. First off, it has and interesting and fairly unique setting. It is in an alternate future where the Holy Britannian Empire has taken over a third of the world, including Japan, which is the stage for this epic. On top of this interesting setting is an even more interesting premise. It may feel reminiscent to Death Note since it also features a High Schooler who receives a manipulative super power from an otherworldly being.

  • Psychopass (series 1-3). The series is set in the near future in which it is possible to instantaneously quantify a person’s state of mind, personality, and probability of committing a crime, all recorded on an individual’s “Psycho-Pass”. When their “Crime Coefficient” index becomes too high, they are pursued and apprehended by police officers known as Inspectors, and their ‘hunting dogs’ the Enforcers; in this way, order is maintained. Unit One of the Public Safety Bureau’s division of criminal investigation, navigate the system to uphold justice in their seemingly Utopian society.

The comment on Psycho-Pass.

The premise of the show poses an interesting scenario: what if we lived in a world where it was possible to determine the potential of a person through a simple cymatic scan, and judge/assign that person accordingly? You would be told your aptitude for certain jobs, the extent of your latent abilities, and the likelihood of mental instability and the capacity to commit crimes. • The Promised Neverland (season 1). The Promised Neverland was one of the best anime during its year of release. At Grace Field House, life couldn’t be better for the orphans. Though they have no parents, together with the other kids and a kind “Mama” who cares for them, they form one big, happy family. But one day, two top-scoring orphans, Emma and Norman, venture past the gate and unearth the harrowing secret behind their entire existence. Utilizing their quick-wittedness, the children must work together to somehow change their predetermined fate.

The Comment on The Promised Neverland.

What happens when you mix the epic games of wits, strategies and dialogue from Death Note with the world building, violence and mystery of both Attack on Titan and Made in Abyss and then you add a bit of your own creativity to it? Well you get The Promised Neverland. Overall, this show was amazing, it did cut some parts of the manga (the inner thoughts and monologues of the characters been one of those things) which still leave the manga as the superior version of the story but I believe this anime was still a very successful adaptation. I can’t wait for 2020 to watch season 2! DON’T watch season 2, it is awful, watch season one and then read the manga.

  • The Future Diary (Mirai Nikki). Yukiteru Amano is a 14-year old loner who spends much of his time dispassionately recording events around him in his cell phone “diary.” His only friends are imaginary ones: Dues ex Machina, the “god of time and space,” and Murmur, Dues’s impish helper. Yukiteru’s life takes a turn for the strange when his diary starts recording events before they happen and Dues announces that he’s not so imaginary after all, and a turn for the sinister when his diary announces his own impending death. It turns out Yukiteru has become part of a survival game in order to determine who will succeed Dues as the god of time and space, competing with 11 others who also possess diaries that predict the future in various ways.

The Comment on Mirai Nikki – The Future Diary.

Mirai Nikki is a brilliant mix of a Psychological Thriller, Action, and Romance. Yuki is a boy who gains the ability to read the future through his personal diary, which is awesome until he finds out that there are 11 other people who also have their own diary’s and are his opponents in a competition to become a god. But thats not all bad, he happens to have someone to protect him. Enter Gasai Yuno, a cute girl who goes to Yuki’s school. She also has a future diary, and it turns out she has a bit of a crush on Yuki…. and is an insane psychopathic stalker, or Yandere if you will. The story follows these two as they try to survive in the killing game they’ve been placed in. It explores how ones actions and willpower can change the future and how good people can do go insane or do terrible things because of traumatic experiences. The pacing is fairly fast, but not forced, even when there’s no intense action going on, you find yourself on the edge of your seat knowing that an enemy could pop up at any time. I experienced all sort of emotions throughout the anime, fear, happiness, excitement, sadness. The shock value was insane.

  • B: The Beginning. Have you ever thought to yourself: “Hey, I wonder what would it be like if someone combined Terror in Resonance with Tokyo Ghoul.” ? or “What if someone combined Psycho Pass with Death Note?” On the islands of Cremona, a vigilante runs amok. Celebrated by some and hunted by others, the notorious “Killer B” takes justice into his own hands, armed with a sharp blade and superhuman abilities. Unable to apprehend this renegade, the Royal Investigation Service (RIS) calls upon the expertise of Keith Flick, a seasoned, yet eccentric detective who was relegated to the Archives Department following a personal loss.

The Comment on B:The Beginning.

The Beginning that takes so many risks to create a unique and memorable experience. Thankfully those risks paid off and it turned out really good. It’s far from perfect, but I’m just happy such a lovingly crafted experience like this got made at all. This is the kind of uncommonly crazy anime that I thoroughly enjoyed, but I’m glad not everything is the same as it.

  • Full Metal Alchemist. Both Death Note and and FMA (Fullmetal Alchemist) have great plot with twist and turns conspericies, and mind games, and betrayl. while FMA is more action oriented, its deep plot may suprise you.

The Comment on FullMetal Alchemist.

Full Metal Alchemist story hits close to home, because I lost my mother when I was about four. It may sound like a lie but I had hopes of bringing her back from the dead, of course I couldn’t because no such magic exist in the world and the hope that it did was just the hope of an ambitious kid. Edward and Alphonse had this ambition and as a result, they were met with a gruesome response. If you want a engaging fantasy series with affectionate art, and compelling story then this is one for you. The fights are great too but really, they shouldn’t be your concern when going into Full Metal Alchemist, a manga that has much more.

Bonus advice: what to watch after Death Note: Monster.

In case your’re not satisfied with our suggestion, you can find our top rated anime chart at the following link. Moreover, another great anime show which is ranked #30 on Myanimelist is Monster. The setting takes place in central Europe in the late 20th century and it’s about a neurosurgeon who, against the wishes of the hospital, chooses to save the life of a newly orphaned boy who arrived first instead of the city’s mayor. Nine years later the boy reappears revealing himself to be a serial killer behind a reign of terror. Who is this monster? What kind of secrets does his past hide?

monster similar to death note anime

Why is Monster a good anime?

Monster plays out like a macabre game of cat and mouse in a world that is frighteningly similar to real life. Uncomfortable subjects such as coercive human conditioning and the psychology of the sociopath, morality issues regarding the origin of evil and the value of human life, are horrifyingly, yet engagingly, realized. The protagonist, Dr. Tenma, struggles to fix that which is so remorsefully broken in his world. Monster is a chilling tale rooted in reality, a far cry from the superpowers and supernatural forces found in more detached fantasy series.
